KULM Now Live on Kickstarter - News from ATO Magazine

Greetings from ATO Magazine,

Some exciting news below about new projects and upcoming releases so let’s dive right in!

What’s New

ATO's 2023 Annual, with La Bataille de Kulm inside, looks at the shattering reverse Napoleon suffered right after his triumphant defense of Dresden in late August 1813. An entire French corps, itself in pursuit of the retreating Allies, instead found itself trapped, and was swept from the field. It was the turning point of the Leipzig Campaign, and the Allied victory at Kulm had a great effect on their morale.

We are extremely pleased to announce our Kickstarter for La Bataille de Kulm is now live on Kickstarter! Launched last week, we’ve had fantastic support so far, and we are getting ready to expand the Stretch Goal list soon. Even more goodies will make Kulm better, and we have some "extras" planned for gamer pleasure that we think you will like. (How about a new game? Or two?)

Click on the image above to visit our Kickstarter page for Kulm.

Besides outright support for this project via pledges, you can also help, of course, by spreading the word anywhere you see gamers or Napoleonic enthusiasts.  Kulm rules will be structured for "easy entry" to the La Batt system (like our La Bataille de Vauchamps was) and this means it's a chance to "grow the market" and attract new players to the whole La Bataille System.  That is a win-win for everyone!

We have lots of things to share on our Kickstarter page, insights into the game and the campaign, a discussion of the "mystery man" on the game/magazine cover, and more.  We will keep tabs on the page and look forward to an active discussion!

What’s Next

Up next is ATO issue #61 with
ROME IInc inside. A sequal to the award winning ROME INC, designer Philip Jelley explores running the later Roman Empire like a business, but this time the barbarians are well and truly at the gates. Together the players operate behind the scenes, promoting and removing emperors, governors, and the occasional pope.

Both a solitaire and dual player game, together or alone, you control the mechanics of a failing empire, choosing five distinct “starting points” (286 CE, 363 CE, 425 CE, 497 CE and 565 CE) and run scenarios lasting 10-50 turns, depending on your corporate acumen and endurance. Each turn represents 5-10 years, with 10 turns in each of the five scenarios. If you already own ROME, Inc. you can extend the game into ROME, IInc. for a truly epic 90 turn game charting the rise and fall of history’s greatest empire.

You decide where to allocate resources (capital spending), raise new forces (hiring), undertake prestige projects (public relations), pleasing the church (shareholders), or even setting aside a reserve for a rainy decade or two. You need to blend military acumen with careful administration, as well as intrigue, making the most of what you have each turn, just like any modern-day business. ROME, IInc. will give you a new perception of how war is a cost, business is a benefit, and empire is somewhere in between. It’s up to you to find a balance. Download the rules (look to the lower right) and
pre-order this issue from the game's webpage here.

About Subscriptions

Note that ATO is still selling subscriptions to US residents (only) but that the new/renewal subscription webpages on the ATO site have been turned off. Basically, just send us an e-mail to sales@atomagazine.com saying you’re interested and want a 4 issue ($125.00) or 5 issue ($150.00) sub. We control things this way so no one can go over the bingo expiration issue of #65. We'll check out if you'd go over the limit, and then use PayPal to send you a (secure) request for money, and you can use your own PayPal account to pay for it (PayPal will also allow you to use a credit card now, even if you don't have a formal PayPal account).

OK, thanks for reading!
