Read Against the Odds

Against the Odds magazine investigates military history from a broad perspective. The economic, political, religious and social aspects of warfare are examined in concert with events on the battlefield.

Each issue of ATO features:

Informative and insightful articles showcasing the history behind events, plus regular columns by noted game designers providing insight on the latest trends and events.

A challenging, fun wargame that drops the players into truly desperate situations but gives them multiple options to alter history.

Professionally printed graphics, complete with large playing map and 200 to 360 die cut playing pieces.

And much more! Look for Against the Odds to cover simulation design issues, order of battle research, rule writing, play testing and graphic techniques as it evolves. Get yourself truly "connected" with games and gaming by reading Against the Odds!

It's Charlie's Year Once More at Against the Odds

We rarely publish one newsgram right after another but immediately after sending out our last one, it was announced the Charles S Roberts Awards were being restarted after a 7 year hiatus. One of the premiere awards in the industry, the CSR recognize real excellence in game design, graphics, and military history analysis and writing.

Click on the banner above to cast your ballot or you can register your vote here:

But in all cases, voting ends at the end of May, so don’t miss your chance to make your mark!

While voting is only for items published in 2019 (and that was more the year of our sister line, Turning Point Simulations, as they wrapped up their 20 game series) Against the Odds Magazine published:

    * A Gate of Hell by Paul Rohrbaugh

    * On Guards: The Fortifiers by Andy Nunez

    * And the Data Shows: All Ashore That's Going Ashore by Ed Heinsman

    * The Fifth Columnist by John D. Burtt

Plus the six new Pocket Battle Games below (do you have them all?):

While you're there at the CSR ballot site, you can also vote for your favorite TPS game from 2019 as well (all pictured below):

The Battle of Marathon      The Battle of Châlons

The Battle of Blenheim       The Day of Waterloo

Plus the one new Pocket Battle Game (La Haye Sainte) from TPS:

Remember, your vote could be, well, decisive (just like our TPS Decisive Battles series)!

And in other news, the mailing for issue #51 is complete (you may not have yours yet, but all copies have been posted). Our next ATO issue will be #52 with Operation Ichi-Go (below) inside. Subscribe or re-subscribe now to get your copy.
